Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belts

The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (ICYB) is a professional who is versed in the basics of the Lean Six Sigma Methodology who supports improvement projects as a part of a team.  A Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt possesses an understanding of the aspects within the phases of D-M-C. They apply this knowledge to all aspects of their primary functions.

Certification Testing

The IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt (ICYB) Exam is a 1.5 hour 50 question proctored exam based on the IASSC Universally Accepted Lean Six Sigma Body of Knowledge (ILSSBOK) for Yellow Belts.

The ICYB Exam contains multiple-choice questions from each major section of the ILSSBOK for Yellow Belts and is administered in IASSC Testing Centers located in 165 countries throughout the world.

In order to achieve the professional designation of IASSC Certified Yellow Belt (ICYB) from the International Association for Six Sigma Certification individuals must sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam and achieve a passing score that is calculated based on points earned in the exam.

An individual is allowed a maximum of three sittings per twelve month period to successfully pass the exam. Certifications are valid for a period of two years from the date of issuance.

Those seeking Certification must also complete an IASSC Member Profile containing demographic and resume information. Member status and important messages related to Certification will be communicated and reflected within the Member Profile. There are no pre-requisites required in order to sit for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam. For more about this see FAQ’s and the IASSC position on knowledge and application.


For those wishing to sit for the exam it is recommended, but not required, that Lean Six Sigma training is obtained through a qualified institution, lean six sigma trainer or corporate program prior to sitting for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam. It is also recommended, although not required, that those sitting for the exam have some degree of real-world lean six sigma work experience and project application experience.

In addition IASSC has compiled a list of helpful resources to assist in preparing for the IASSC Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Exam.


Upon successful achievement, Professionals will receive a physical copy of a Certification Certificate issued by the International Association for Six Sigma Certification.

Professionals will also receive a Digital Badge which will automatically be displayed on their IASSC Member Profile. This badge may also be used on other public profiles such as LinkedIn. Professionals may also use the designation ICYB, IASSC Certified Yellow Belt or any approved variation of the designation after their name in accordance with the IASSC Marks Usage Policy.

In addition Premium Certification Plaques may be purchased through IASSC once Certification has been granted. Professionals will receive information on how to purchase Premium Certification Plaques after IASSC has granted Certification.
